Bettas Before & After
The next time you are shopping for a Betta, don't be too quick to overlook those who are in distress. With the right care, any Betta can go from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan! And it will do your heart good to know you have given new life to a Betta who would never have made it without you.

Cloud is one of my Elephant Ear Bettas. On the day I bought him, he was a washed-out white, riddled with ammonia burn, and not very active.

This picture was taken 2 weeks after Cloud enjoyed his new home with proper food and proper water conditions. I refer to him as the ugly duckling who turned into a beautiful swan! There's no disputing that the proper care can change any Betta.

Spirit was in such bad shape with ammonia burn, torn fins, and ripped scales that the pet store manager GAVE him to me! One of his "ears" was so much shorter than the other that he swam lopsided, but I definitely saw something beautiful in him, and I was right - check out his After picture!

After 2 weeks, Spirit's color is changing, his ammonia burn is healing, and he is enjoying life in his 5 gallon tank. Although Spirit has a long way to go, he is making tremendous progress. His one short "ear" is growing, which makes swimming easier.

Journey, another one of my Elephant Ear Bettas, was suffering from ammonia burn also. His little face was covered in it :( This picture was taken on the day I brought him home.

Hard to believe, but after only ONE week with the proper care, Journey looks like a different fish! I firmly believe that with the right conditions, any beta can improve day by day.

Rocky is a perfect example of how a Betta can thrive when provided with good food and good water conditions. Rocky's owner, Bonnie, saw this little guy and knew she had to save him. You will be shocked at Rocky's after picture!

Yep - this is Rocky after only a few weeks in his new home! Shocking, I know, but again, the best example of what good care will do for a betta. So the next time you are shopping for a betta, don't overlook that one that looks ripped up, washed out, or has torn fins - there is something to say for those people who "rescue" bettas!!

Painter's owner, Fran Boppe, saw the beauty in this little washed-out betta and knew in time, with the proper care, Painter would turn into a beautiful swan.

After 27 days, Painter is proud to show off his beautiful red, white, and blue colors! Painter is another example of what good food and good water conditions can do for any betta.

Kirsten Gallew saw the potential beauty in Apollo, and from the looks of his after picture, she was right! This is Apollo soon after he joined Kirsten's family...check out his after picture next!

This picture was taken 7 months after Apollo was brought home with Kirsten. As you can see, good food and water conditions have turned this guy into a totally different fish! He's a beauty, Kirsten!

Breezy was actually not in bad shape when I got him, other than his coloring and a touch of ammonia burn on his face.

After less than a week eating good food and having proper water conditions, Breezy's color has darkened and his ammonia burn is healing.

Blue was very tiny when I rescued him, but actually not in very bad shape.

Mr. Grumpy, as I call him, shown here 2 years later. His fins have gotten quite long, but he is enjoying life!
